Our Food Experiences​

We are concerned about your safety and have taken every care to provide you with a fun experience in a safe and sanitary environment compliant with official government protocols.  When we re-open for physical experiences, all staff will be equipped with masks and other PPE as well as hand sanitisers which will be available for use before, during and after experiences. We are also taking smaller groups and revised our max capacity and refund policies to accommodate uncertainty access during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour Experience


A fully immersive social and cultural experience combining a walking tour, hands on cooking workshop and 2 course lunch. This 3 and a half hour experience will introduce you to the food, culture and traditions of the Cape Malay's of Bo-Kaap.

Learn how to mix Masala, and make Roti's, Samoosa's, Dhaltjies and Chicken Curry from scratch!

We offer a fun, educational experience encompassing inspiring insights into the Cape Malay culture in Bo-Kaap from a culinary perspective.   Your host and guide, will entertain you with stories of the food and culture of Bo-Kaap whilst cooking up a storm in the kitchen!

In the cooking class, guests will discover the secrets of mixing Masala, making Dhaltjies (Chilli Bites), preparing and folding Samoosas, making and frying Rotis and learning the traditional way to cook a mouth-watering Cape Malay Curry which you will enjoy in a sit down lunch. During your tour you'll be entertained with local recipes and stories of food, culture and life.

Refreshments and tasters are served before Lunch, thereafter you will receive a recipe booklet together with bag of Zainie's special Masala Mix for your first curry meal.

Bookings
- All bookings must be done either by email or via the booking form on our website
- Bookings will be confirmed via email when minimum quotas are filled
- A minimum 24hr notice period is required for all bookings
- If a particular class does not reach minimum numbers or must be cancelled due COVID related restrictions, you will receive a full refund or a voucher to use for a future class.
- The 'Pay On Arrival" includes cash only however card facilities are available but not all cards are accepted (best to pay in advance)

Cancellation Notice Policy 
- 3 days or more will receive a 100% refund.
- Less than 1-3 days will receive a 80% refund.
- Less than 24 hours will receive 50% refund.
